Excellent/Heartbreaking Report on Guardianship in Walla Walla

Northwest Public Broadcasting reporter Sueann Ramella wrote a piece about a guardianship in Walla Walla.

It’s a tough read.

The main points are:

  • Anyone can file a petition to place anyone else under guardianship, at any time, without your knowledge.
  • It is virtually impossible to get out of a guardianship arrangement.
  • Anyone fighting the guardianship or acting as a perceived threat to the guardianship can have a Vulnerable Adult Protective Order (VAPO) filed against them, cutting off any communication between them and the victim.
  • Despite Adult Protective Services and Guardian Ad Litem reports in favor of communication and visit between the vulnerable adult and their loved ones, a VAPO can still be ordered and granted by a judge.
